Salzburg is not far away from the Austrian-German borderline, so it is convenient for those who want to explore many of the nearby attractions in Bavaria. The city lies on the intersection of many European trade routes and therefore it is highly accessible by air, rail and autobahn.
Travel to Salzburg by Plane
The Salzburg Airport - W. A. Mozart lies three kilometers southwest of the center of the city. It provides regular air flights to all Austrian airports, as well as to London, Paris, Berlin, Dresden, Frankfurt, Brussels, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, and Zurich. Bus No. 2 runs between the airport and Salzburg’s main rail station, departing every fifteen minutes.
Travel to Salzburg by Train
Salzburg’s main railway station, the Salzburg Hauptbahnhof, is on the major rail lines of Europe, with frequent arrivals not only from all the main cities of Austria, but also from other European cities. Between 5:30am and 11:40pm, trains arrive every half hour from Vienna. From the train station, buses depart to many different parts of the city, as well as to the Old Town. Or one can walk from the rail station to the Old Town in about twenty minutes.
Travel to Salzburg by Car
Salzburg is 336 kilometers southwest of Vienna and 153 kilometers east of Munich. It is surrounded by good roads and can be easily reached for example via Autobahn A8 from the west (Munich), A1 from the east (Vienna), and A10 from the south. From north and west into Salzburg enters Route 20 and Route 159 connects towns and cities from the southeast.
