STROBL - HOTELS & TOURIST INFORMATION
Strobl lies on the east side of Wolfgangsee Lake, at an elevation of five hundred forty-two meters and with population of 3500 inhabitants. The name derives from the iron tradesman family Strobl (Strobl means "unkempt man", which was common name in south Germany), of whom the village’s arms still reminds.
From late medieval age to the 17th century, the village was a center of pilgrims.
At the turn of the century it had become a famous vacation resort with contemporary facilities. Thanks to its large, flat-lake side and beautiful natural beaches, now Strobl is one of the most famous resorts in the Salzkammergut region. The resort provides its visitors with almost all kinds of sports and leisure time facilities. The magnificent surrounding of Postalm area, 1200 - 2000 meters above the sea, near Strobl is the spacious mountain plateau in Austria, covering an area of about forty square kilometers. In summer very popular are the extensive hiking and mountain biking tours as well as various water sports at the lake. In winter the skiing zone has available eight lifts, many downhill slopes and Nordic ski tracks of various levels of difficulty.
